Film Industry

exhibition
the audience are able to receive and see the films that are out in many ways. First option is that people are able to go to the cinema to watch the film that is out. another way of being able to watch the film is by online film sites for example 'Lovefilm' and 'Netflix'. Another one is where people are able to wait for the film to be published on DVD or Blue ray. These are the many ways in how people are able to receive the new published films.

Distribution
films that are being released out new are usually in partnership with cinemas or online film companies. these companies then distribute and publish the films with special release dates and set prices.

Marketing
Marketing is the easy stages of the film industry because the film companies are able to be sponsored by   toy companies and food companies for example McDonalds with their happy meals and Pizza Hut with their food offers. the film companies could also present the films on online adverts and digital adverts on television.

Production
production is split into three stages, Pre Production, Production and Post Production.

Pre Production- this is when the film is being planned on what type of props, locations, characters, scenes, shots SFX and VFX  etc are being organised. the story board would be planned and designed in the stage as well. These are the first stages.

Production- this stage is when the shots that have been taken are visually viewed to see if they are accurate and are able to match with other scenes taken. this is what is done in this stage of the production section of film making.

Post Production- this is when the film is finally put together by the editor. the editor is to firstly put a small sequence together for a quality check so he or she is able create the film as one big clip.

When films are being produced there are three main stages that they go through these stages are:
.Pre production
.Production
.Post-production

Pre-production is when all the planning for the project takes place, during this stage all the production is broken down into stages and all the cast members , locations, props cast members, costumes, SFX  and VFX are identified. if the script is not completed then it is usually written at this stage.

Production is the stage where the filming is carried out. All the scenes have been planned out in pre-production are filmed in the relevant locations and areas, all scenes in production are filmed many times as much as the director wants to make sure they have a perfect shot to construct the film. also in production this is where the strength of the pre-production work is put to the test. Great care must to taken to ensure that the film is a success.

Post-production is the stage is where the film is assembled by the editor,The first job of the film editor is to build a rough cut taken from sequences The purpose of the rough cut is to select and order the best shots. The next step is to create a fine cut by getting all the shots to flow smoothly in a seamless story.

DEVON MULLER HOMEWORK - FILM INDUSTRY

Film Industry

The film industry is a massive business. It can be split into 4 parts in the process of making a a film. these 4 parts are Production, Distribution, Marketing and Exhibition.

  • Production: this can be split into sub sections. Distribution which is when the producers brainstorm and come up with the initial ideas for the film. script writing and rights are also bought at this stage. Pre-production is when location and set are decided as well as when crew and cast are hired. Production is when the film is recorded. Post-production is when the film is edited in the edit houses ready for distribution.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hyMpjOulMgs MAKING OF HANGOVER 2

  • Distribution: is the final stage when the film leaves the edit houses to the audience, this can be via cinema, DVD or Blu Ray or an instant download. Distributors may choose one weekend to to distributed their film as maybe on another weekend another big film may be being released as well.
  • Marketing: you need to market a film in order for it to make money. The marketers do this in many ways such as billboards, TV ads, through other companies, etc. if a children's film was being promoted it is likely they will use things like happy meals or ads on children's TV as platforms for their ad campaign as that is where most of their target market lie.

  • Exhibition: is when they audience see the production. They can see it through a variety of ways eg: cinema, DVD, online download, through their TV package ie: Sky or Virgin movies, etc. The film value chain come into play after the film has been theatrically shown in cinemas. Its how we access the films after that period:
